Insulation
-
3M Thinsulate SM600L
I used a total of 60” by 50’
Apply with 3M 90 Spray Adhesive
I went through 4 bottles (14.6 oz each) for the install
-
R-value of 5
Acoustic sound deadening
Non-toxic
Hydrophobic (won’t mold)
Lightweight
Easy to install
-
Wear a mask and glasses for protection from spray fumes
Spray the van and insulation
Material can be cut with scissors
Do NOT compress the material - that affects its r-value capabilities
Remember to add insulation in all the ribs and behind door panels
Full coverage is the goal to prevent thermal bridging
-
Spray foam
Messy, expensive and fills drain holes, but good R-value
Havelock Wool
Good r-value, but need a lot & could attract insects
Rigid Foam Boards
Good R-value, not easy to install on walls and ceiling
Typically installed in conjunction with spray foam

Honestly, my van is not well insulated, mainly because of all my windows. If I did a van again, I’d still use 3M Thinsulate, but I’d do two layers and cut large sections instead of multiple tiny sections to cover an area all at once.
