Insulation

    • 3M Thinsulate SM600L

      • I used a total of 60” by 50’

    • Apply with 3M 90 Spray Adhesive

      • I went through 4 bottles (14.6 oz each) for the install

    • R-value of 5

    • Acoustic sound deadening

    • Non-toxic

    • Hydrophobic (won’t mold)

    • Lightweight

    • Easy to install

    • Wear a mask and glasses for protection from spray fumes

    • Spray the van and insulation

    • Material can be cut with scissors

    • Do NOT compress the material - that affects its r-value capabilities

    • Remember to add insulation in all the ribs and behind door panels

    • Full coverage is the goal to prevent thermal bridging

    • Spray foam

      • Messy, expensive and fills drain holes, but good R-value

    • Havelock Wool

      • Good r-value, but need a lot & could attract insects

    • Rigid Foam Boards

      • Good R-value, not easy to install on walls and ceiling

      • Typically installed in conjunction with spray foam

  • Honestly, my van is not well insulated, mainly because of all my windows. If I did a van again, I’d still use 3M Thinsulate, but I’d do two layers and cut large sections instead of multiple tiny sections to cover an area all at once.
