Internet & Connectivity
-
Starlink Gen 3
Roof-mounted using the Trio Speedmount with magneticswivel hardware
Powered by a 12 volt power supply controlled by a rocker switch
-
Reliable internet connection wherever I travel
Coverage across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico
Allows me to stay connected for work and safety while on the road
-
I mounted the dish on the roof using the Trio SpeedMount with magnetic swivel hardware
Permanently mounting the dish by screwing or taping it to the roof is another option
I rewired the router to run on a 12 volt power supply instead of 120 volt, which improves efficiency and eliminates the need to run the inverter
-
I chose not to permanently mount the dish so it can easily be removed if needed
Previously, I had to set up and take down Starlink every time I wanted internet, which quickly became inconvenient
Now the dish stays mounted and I simply flip a switch to turn the system on and off
Rewiring the router to run on 12V power is more efficient and allows me to leave Starlink running 24/7 without noticeable battery drain
I use the Starlink Roaming plan, which provides unlimited data for $165 per month and can be canceled at any time
There have been many times where my phone had no service for days, but with Starlink I was still able to stay connected
-
Hotspots or WiFi Boosters
Cellular hotspots or signal boosters can improve internet access when cell service is available
However, they rely on nearby cell towers and will not work in many remote areas where Starlink does
Public WiFi
Using public WiFi at places like cafés or libraries is another option
This requires traveling to locations with internet access and is not always reliable while on the road
Starlink Mini
A newer, smaller dish option released after I installed the Gen 3 system
It runs on 12 volt power and has a more compact design
Trio also offers a compatible mount for the Starlink Mini
-
I wouldn’t be able to go off-grid the way I enjoy without Starlink. Having reliable internet wherever I travel has been a huge upgrade for working remotely and staying safe on the road. I definitely don’t miss the days of driving to cafés or libraries every day just to get internet.
